In a very busy game, but with few clear chances, Palmeiras was needed to defeat Santos this Wednesday (14), 1-0, at Arena Barueri. In the first classic of this edition of the Campeonato Paulista, young Allan, aged 21, was the one who set the score.
The goal came in the first half, in the 40th minute, after a wrong attempt by Santos that resulted in a counterattack by Palmeiras. Allan made a good deep pass to Flaco López, who managed to return the ball for the number 40 to finish into the goal.
With the result, Palmeiras reached six points in two games in the competition. Santos, who had also won in the opening of the tournament, recorded their first defeat.
Despite the triumph in the classic, Abel Ferreira had a problem for the rest of the season, with the injury to Andreas Pereira. The midfielder had to be substituted 15 minutes into the game with pain in his right shoulder.
The trouble came after he suffered a foul from Igor Vinícius. After the collision with his rival, the alviverde team player fell and hit his shoulder on the field. After receiving medical attention, he left the match for Larson to enter.
Losing players to injury is one of coach Abel Ferreira’s main concerns at the start of the season. The Portuguese understands that his squad will only be in full physical condition from February onwards, which is why he should play his parts at the beginning of the state championship. Even so, it was not possible to avoid Andreas’s loss in the second round of the Paulista.
The alviverde team returns to the field now on Saturday (17), when they host Mirassol, again in Barueri, at 8:30 pm. Santos’ next match will be against Guarani, on Sunday (18), at 8:30 pm, at Brinco de Ouro, in Campinas.
