Santos coach, Juan Pablo Vojvoda analyzed the defeat to Palmeiras this Wednesday (14), in the second round of the Campeonato Paulista. With a goal from Allan, Verdão beat Peixe 1-0, at Arena Barueri.
In the Argentine coach’s opinion, he performed well against , despite the setback. Even away from home, Vojvoda considered that the team presented a positive attitude and assessed that the goal conceded was a fatality, and not the result of a defensive failure.
“The feeling is that the team’s attitude improved, both in the first and second half. We know that we faced a classic, a good opponent, in their field, on their pitch. As for the game data and statistics, the team created shots, had a good attitude in terms of possession of the ball, defended well. The goal we conceded, I don’t think was a tactical error, it was a hit that left a ball for them, which defines the game”, said Vojvoda.
Gabigol on the bench
Vojvoda also commented on the option of starting the classic with Gabriel Barbosa on the bench. The center forward started among the substitutes and was called on in the 17th minute of the second half, replacing Lautaro Díaz.
According to the commander’s analysis, the decision was based on the short amount of work carried out so far with Gabigol. Furthermore, Vojvoda expressed concern about the striker’s physical condition, aiming to continue the Campeonato Paulista.
It is worth remembering that, in Santos’ debut in the competition, he started the match as a starter and scored the winning goal against Novorizontino, last Saturday (10).
“As for Gabriel, we know he’s a very important player for us, but I’m also getting to know him, I have to spend more minutes with him, day to day. He played 90 minutes with a very high temperature in the last match. I always want Gabriel in my team, I don’t want to lose him. He’ll be in the next game, Santos needs him.” – he completed.
