The commander general of the US Border Patrol, Gregory Bovino, and some of his agents are expected to leave Minneapolis this Tuesday.
Gregory Bovino, commanding general of the U.S. Border Patrol, and members of his team will leave Minneapolis this Tuesday and return to their previous posts. The information is being provided by CNN, which cites sources close to the process.
If confirmed, this change comes after President Donald Trump admitted, on the social network Truth, to removing ICE agents from the city, and later announced that he will send a man who will be responsible for managing ICE operations in Minnesota and who is known as the “Border Czar”.
The death, last Saturday, of nurse Alex Pretti, the second victim of federal police in Minneapolis this month, after Renee Good, could lead the federal government to a new standstill.
Alex, 37, was shot dead by federal ICE agents and became a symbol of the Trump Administration’s repressive immigration policies, triggering strong reactions of protest.
The US President called Alex’s death a “tragedy”, but maintained that it resulted from “deliberate and hostile resistance” from Democrats.
Donald Trump “does not want to see people injured or killed in the streets”, but demands “an end to the resistance and chaos” surrounding the immigrant expulsion policy, said White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt at a press conference.
