Our grandmothers and mothers ate these cookies. Simple, cheap and smells like childhood

This is one of those recipes that evokes sentiment from the first bite. They smell of grandma’s house, a warm oven and sometimes when it was enough to make something with whatever was at hand. “PRL girls” are conquering the kitchen again. They are quick, cheap and certainly healthier than store-bought ones.

The fragile “PRL” girls were once an absolute classic. Our grandmothers made them without any fancy additives, literally in a few moments. In the original recipes, they replaced butter with margarine because it was much more easily available. The baked goods also contained little sugar, which was on the cards. Despite this, the taste of the baked goods was delicious and filled the entire house with aroma. These cookies were not fancy, they were considered everyday sweets that could be made quickly when the household members felt like eating something sweet.

Interestingly, this simple baked goods received the name “PRL-ki” long later. They used to be called cottage cheese cookies. In the past, they were an antidote to empty store shelves where you couldn’t find sweets. Today, they fit perfectly into the fashion for simple cuisine and are certainly a better choice than store-bought sweets. There are no preservatives or artificial additives. To add variety, in the old times of the Polish People’s Republic, housewives sprinkled cookies with more than just sugar. Sometimes they mixed it with poppy seeds or chopped nuts or whatever was at hand.

The recipe for PRL cookies is so simple that there is no chance that the baking will go wrong. Your work, including baking, will take only half an hour. However, you must add the time during which the cake will need to cool.
