A 64-year-old man died when he tried to cross the Amoreira Dam road, in the town of Pias (municipality of Serpa). He may have been caught at the peak of a flash flood. The car was swept away by the water and was submerged.

The body of a man, already lifeless, was rescued from inside the vehicle found submerged in a line of water in the municipality of Serpa, this Wednesday.

“Searches were carried out to see if there were any other victims inside the car and there was no one else”, he told the Lusa agency, a source from the Baixo Alentejo Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command, noting that “no one knows if you were accompanied or not”.

The car was submerged in a line of water near a dam in the municipality of Serpa, district of Beja.

The car ended up submerged in a line of water located next to the road that connects Estrada Regional 258 (ER258) and the wall of the Amoreira Dam, in the municipality of Serpa.

More than 100 roads closed
