Criciúma reinforces attack with the arrival of Rómulo Otero for Série B

O Criciúma has made a major signing official for the 2026 season. Attacking midfielder Rómulo Otero, known for his power in free kicks and spells at big clubs in Brazil, is Tigre’s new reinforcement. The 33-year-old athlete was at Nacional-URU and arrives in the south of Santa Catarina with a permanent contract.

Carvoeiro’s board awaits the player at the Antenor Angeloni Training Center in the coming days. Otero will undergo medical examinations before signing a one-year contract with the club. Due to the closure of registrations for the Catarinense Championship, the Venezuelan will be prepared exclusively for the dispute in Series B of the Brazilian Championship.

International experience and history in Brazil

Last season, defending the colors of Nacional in Uruguay, Otero played 36 matches, registering four goals and three assists. However, it is in Brazilian football that the player has his greatest history, having worn the shirts of:

  • Santos: Where he worked recently before going abroad;

  • Atlético-MG: Club where he gained national recognition;

  • Corinthians and Fortaleza: Other notable passages through football’s elite.

Total focus on the search for access

Otero’s arrival at Criciúma signals the board’s ambition to put together a competitive squad to seek a return to Serie A. Although he will not be able to play in the state championship — where Tigre will face Chapecoense this Sunday in the quarter-finals —, the attacking midfielder will have a valuable period of internal pre-season to adapt to the team’s style of play.

With the signing of the contract expected soon, Carvoeiro fans are looking forward to seeing Otero’s trademark long-distance shots finding the net at the Heriberto Hülse Stadium.
