On February 17, the federal government begins paying the first batch of defense insurance to 46,893 artisanal fishermen who requested the benefit from November 1, 2025 across the country. In Acre, 154 beneficiaries will receive payment, according to data from .
According to the MTE, R$76 million will be made available for the first payment and, next week, the second batch will be released, covering other fishermen. In this first batch, workers who did not present the Fishing Activity Report (REAP) were left out.

The amounts can be withdrawn monthly by fishermen, every 30 days, depending on the date of the request and the corresponding closed period. The benefit corresponds to a minimum wage and can be paid for up to five months, depending on the duration of the closed season.
On this date, workers who, in addition to having made the request through official MTE channels, delivered the REAP to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MPA), have a regular fishing record, reside in a municipality covered by the closed season and are registered with CadÚnico, among other criteria, will receive the benefit.
Even among those who submitted the report, workers with an employment contract, retirees, fishermen whose registration was canceled by the MPA, those who exploit unforeseen species and those who receive the Continuous Payment Benefit (BPC) from Social Security were excluded from the benefit.
What is defense insurance
The benefit, equivalent to a monthly minimum wage, is granted to artisanal fishermen during the closed season, when the capture of some aquatic species is prohibited to protect the reproduction of these species.
