At least 10 dead in school shooting in Canada

A school attack in the north of the province of British Columbia has left at least ten dead, including the attacker, in addition to another twenty people injured by firearms, as reported this afternoon by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to local media. Authorities have reported that there were “multiple victims” during the attack at Tumbler Ridge School, in the Peace River South School District, where students between the ages of 12 and 17 attend.

Canadian police have indicated that at least one suspect has died, but officers are working to determine if a second attacker is involved in this attack. Peace River South legislator Larry Neufeld has told local media that several resources have been sent to the community, including RCMP support and first responder medical support.

This Tuesday, shortly after 2:00 p.m. local time, an alert was issued to mobile phones in the area. The alert advised Tumbler Ridge residents to shelter in place and refrain from going out. According to the alert sent to local people, a woman was described as wearing a dress and having brown hair.

“We understand that some people are searching for their loved ones, and I ask that you please go home and stay home, and allow the incredible people of the RCMP to make this beautiful community safe again,” the Associated Press reports. The provincial government website indicates Tumbler Ridge High School has 175 students.
