Consortium wins RJ train system auction alone

A consortium was the winner of the auction promoted by the state of Rio de Janeiro to be the new operator of the Rio de Janeiro urban train system, the state government announced this Tuesday (10).

The current operator of the system, SuperVia, controlled by Gumi, from the Japanese Mitsui, .

The consortium, formed by the investment funds Nova Via and Magna, according to information from the state court, was the only one to present a proposal at the court event held earlier this Tuesday and offered a discount of just 0.06% on the suggested tariff value of R$17.60.

The result of the auction was approved during this Tuesday’s session, but the signing of the new concession contract still depends on the approval of the documentation presented by the group.

The new concession model provides for the operation of the service for five years, renewable for another five years, and the system operator’s remuneration is now per kilometer traveled instead of the number of passengers.

The new licensee will receive R$660 million for operating the service, according to the notice.

“A new hearing was scheduled for 02/25, at 2 pm, to conclude the bidding process. After that, the winner will be invited to sign the contract, starting the period of the assisted operation with SuperVia, lasting up to 90 days”, informed the State government, without giving details.
