The valet Severino José da Silva, 43 years old, appointed as responsible for maintaining the pool at the C4 Gym gym, will be investigated by the Civil Police. The information was confirmed by delegate Alexandre Bento in a press conference this Tuesday (10/2). Six people showed signs of intoxication after class at the unit — one, teacher Juliana Faustino Bassetto, died last Saturday (7/2).
According to the person responsible, the first line of investigation was that the poisoning had been caused by some type of chemical substance in the water. However, analyses, statements and security camera records indicated the spread of toxic gas in the air: “We identified the person responsible for preparing the product that would be used to clean the pool as the valet.”

According to Alexandre, the professional carried out multiple activities within the establishment, such as working as a valet and assisting with general services — including preparing material for cleaning the pool. Severino went to the Police, also this Tuesday (10/2), and gave a statement about his participation in the case.
Asked about the possibility of the valet being charged with the intoxication of the victims, the police chief responded: “We are still trying to understand the dynamics of the facts. Theoretically, he could be charged with manslaughter. But we are still investigating, because he claims that the work was done under the supervision of one of the company’s owners. He states that he prepared the preparation at the direction of the boss and only left the preparation on the edge of the pool so that the teacher could throw the product into the pool at the end of the last class so that the water could rest for cleaning before the next day of school.”
In addition to the employee’s testimony, the Civil Police are still awaiting the expert reports carried out at the scene and on the seized products, in addition to the medical reports provided by the hospitals regarding the patients’ situation, the types of injuries and illnesses they present. The Regional Chemistry Council also analyzes whether the material used complies with regulations.
The case happened after a swimming class at the C4 Gym, located in Parque São Lucas, East Zone of São Paulo, last Saturday (7/2). Professor Juliana Faustino Bassetto felt unwell during training and died in hospital. Five other victims, including her husband, also showed signs of intoxication.
