The Prime Minister spoke from Belgium: Unless we send a clear signal on energy prices, the summit will be unsuccessful

Unless the representatives of the EU states send a clear political signal from Thursday’s informal summit in Belgium that the EU will do something about high electricity prices, this summit will be an absolute failure. After an informal meeting before the second part of the summit, the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Robert Fico (Smer-SD) stated this on the social network.

In his speech, the Prime Minister wants to draw attention to the termination of primary aluminum production in Žiar nad Hronom, forced by high energy prices. He plans to talk mainly about the options that need to be done to reduce electricity prices.

However, if Thursday’s summit ends without such a political commitment being made, the Prime Minister will consider it a totally unsuccessful, ineffective and expensive trip. One of the solutions for reducing energy prices, which he has already proposed in the past, is to suspend the trading of emission allowances.
