Justice has summoned pseudojournalist Vito Quiles to testify for disseminating private information linked to the president of Red Eléctrica España (REE), Beatriz Corredor, days after. The investigative court number 23 of Madrid, led by Judge Sonia Agudo, has accepted for processing the complaint for revelation of secrets filed by the head of the system operator against the political activist, who has been summoned to testify on April 7, legal sources have informed this newspaper.
The president of REE, whose 20% belongs to the State Society of Industrial Participations (Sepi), has brought to the attention of the courts the disclosure on social networks of data that may directly affect her private sphere such as her home, as indicated by the same sources. The message claimed that Corredor hired “with public funds security guards at the door of his house (…) to avoid the press or critics.” The text, which was accompanied by two photos of the property, added the address of the home.
This tweet was preceded by another one with a critical tone, published one day after the blackout, on April 29. In it he indicated that the president of Red Eléctrica was “handpicked” by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, despite the fact that “she does not have any training related to the energy sector on her resume.” Likewise, he recalled that Corredor was sent to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) every year in its member remuneration report and that it has been maintained since 2020 when he assumed the presidency of the semi-public firm. Likewise, Quiles said that the professional experience of the former Minister of Housing “is linked to the real estate sector.” “There is little wrong with us,” this message concluded.
This newspaper has contacted Vito Quiles’ defense, which has declined to comment on the matter. The Penal Code punishes with fines, even prison sentences, the dissemination, disclosure or transfer to third parties, without consent, of information that may violate the privacy of the affected person.
At the moment, the case is in a preliminary phase. The judge of the court located in Madrid’s Plaza Castilla has summoned Quiles to ask him about these events, after Corredor ratified his complaint for revealing secrets in court. It will be after this procedure when the magistrate decides the future of the judicial case.
This is not the first time that Quiles has been denounced for his actions under the protection of a journalist. for some statements he made in 2022, through his social networks and in a program on EDATV.news (State of Alarm, Javier Negre’s platform), in which he accused the general secretary of the consumer organization Facua, Rubén Sánchez, of extorting, defrauding and promoting death threats.
Outside of judicial channels, the Association of Parliamentary Journalists (APP) has requested him on several occasions as an informant in the Lower House, considering that his actions go against professional ethics. In this context, for recording Sánchez with a mobile phone in an unauthorized area of the institution and spreading it on social networks, on December 11, during the presentation of the television series Anatomy of a moment.
A few days earlier, on November 20, another incident took place. Quiles did the same at the exit of an event organized by Congress, when he persecuted the former president of the Government José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. The association had already requested this measure in June 2024, understanding that it was incompatible for Quiles to attend the press conferences of the political formations and ask parliamentary spokespersons, despite acting at that time as head of communication for , a group on whose lists he also appeared for the European elections of that year, and from which he now appears to have distanced himself.
