Man is accused of alleged fraud in Russia and had a warrant issued by the Federal Supreme Court for extradition
The Federal Police (PF) arrested this Thursday (12) a Russian citizen who was fugitive from the authorities of his home country. According to the PF, the arrest was made by the International Police Cooperation Center – Interpol Regional Office in the State of São Paulo.
The PF reported that the arrest warrant for the man was issued by the due to alleged involvement in a crime of fraud. He was target of Interpol Red Broadcast and an arrest warrant had already been issued against him for extradition purposes.
After his arrest, the man was placed at the disposal of Brazilian justice and remains in custody pending the extradition process.
Red broadcast is a notice issued by Interpol to locate and detain people wanted by the courts. However, the alert does not amount to an automatic arrest warrant, as member countries apply their own laws to decide whether to arrest a person or not.
Red broadcasts are published at the request of a country and must be in accordance with the Interpol constitution and regulations
According to the Interpol website, the red broadcast contains two types of information: that necessary to identify the wanted person, such as name, date of birth, nationality, hair and eye color, photographs and fingerprints, if available; and those related to the crime for which she is wanted, which can normally be homicide, sexual abuse, pedophilia, or armed robbery.
