The Terceira Island Carnival is a free popular theater festival that involves around 1,500 amateur musicians and actors over four days. Between Shrovetide Saturday and Tuesday, around 60 groups tour more than 30 rooms on the island, presenting dances, dances, theater with social criticism, music and choreography.
The Carnival on Terceira Island, in the Azores, is a popular theater festival held free of charge by hundreds of amateur musicians and actors and even those who make the “leap” to bigger stages continue to participate.
For four days, the island of Terceira doesn’t sleep celebrating Carnival. Between Saturday and Tuesday of Entrudo, around six dozen groups travel more than 30 rooms across the islandperforming until dawn.
In total, they pass through the stages of Terceira close to 1,500 musicians and actorsto present Carnival dances and dances, theater demonstrations, with social criticism, interspersed with music and choreography.
Side by side, there are those who have already been to the conservatory or are in philharmonic bands, folklore groups or theater groups, but also those who only step on a stage during Carnival days and, sometimes, it is from experience gained these days musical or theater groups are born.
