“I know. And I want to answer everything I can.” With these words, pilot Sérgio Antônio Lopes, 60 years old, reacted to the police approach inside an aircraft at Congonhas Airport. The arrest, which took place last Monday (9), revealed not only the face of an alleged leader of a pedophile network, but also the coldness of those who confessed to the crimes while still on the airport patio.

Lopes, who had commanded flights for Latam for more than 25 years, did not attempt to deny the accusations when confronted by agents from the 4th Pedophilia Repression Police Station. In images obtained by the report, he appears admitting that he has had relationships with minors and describing, in detail, how he met some of his victims.
Tests on cell phones
The crucial point of the approach was the voluntary delivery of the cell phone. On the device, the pilot showed the police records from one of the victims, proving the storage of sexual exploitation material. According to the Operation Fasten Your Belts investigation, the cell phone was not just a repository, but a negotiation tool: Lopes used messaging applications to receive photos and videos, reciprocating with transfers via Pix that ranged from R$30 to R$100.
According to delegate Luciana Peixoto, the material found is blunt. In addition to the images, the conversation history reveals that the pilot asked the victims to act as recruiters, asking them to bring “friends aged 11 to 14” for the scheme. He openly referred to children as “little girls” and reinforced his preference for “young girls”.
The structure of abuse
Lopes’ confession helped the police understand the logistics of the crime. The pilot used false documents to bring minors into motels and maintained a financial support network with the victims’ mothers and grandmothers. “He bought access,” explained the delegate. In exchange for silence and handing over the children, the pilot paid everything from medicine to the families’ rent.
Sérgio Antônio Lopes was fired for just cause last Wednesday (11). He remains in prison and will be charged with rape of a vulnerable person, storing and sharing child pornography, as well as promoting prostitution.
