The Catholic Parliamentary Front and the Evangelical Parliamentary Front in Congress criticized the parade held last Sunday, the 15th, by the Acadêmicos de Niterói samba school with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) as the theme. The two benches claim that the content displayed disrespected the Christian faith and that they will take action against the Judiciary and control bodies.
One of the sections of the samba school parade deals with conservative families inside a can.
In the note released this Wednesday, the 18th, the Catholic Front said it had received the presentation with “indignation” and that religious freedom must be respected, as well as artistic freedom. “When cultural manifestations achieve broad public repercussion, especially when public resources are involved, responsibility for the way beliefs, principles and values are portrayed also increases”, says the text signed by the president of the front, Luiz Gastão (PSD-CE).
Opportunity with security!
The Catholic front defended the investigation of the facts and possible accountability if irregularities in the presentation are confirmed: “There are signs that the parade has exceeded the limits established by legislation when dealing with religious convictions. In view of this, the Catholic Parliamentary Front demands and will demand measures and the action of the competent bodies to properly investigate the facts and possible accountability, if irregularities are confirmed.”
The Evangelical Parliamentary Front repudiated what it called “disrespectful and offensive conduct”. The group stated that it was “inadmissible” for cultural events to promote “mockery against the Christian faith” and criticized the alleged public financing of the parade.
“It is unacceptable that the right to cultural expression is distorted to promote mockery of the Christian faith and open mockery of the conservative values that sustain our society”, states the text. “We will not accept that the faith of the majority of Brazilians is treated as an object of satire in exchange for a political platform.”
Continues after advertising
The front informed that it will contact the Attorney General’s Office and the Judiciary asking for the punishment of those responsible for the parade.
