President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met with the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenkovic, this Thursday (19), in India. The two participate in the summit on the impact of artificial intelligence.
One of the topics discussed was the trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union. Both Lula and Plenkovic agreed on the importance of the agreement and the expectation that it can come into force soon. They also agreed on the relevance of the agreement in the geopolitical moment the world is experiencing.
“The two leaders highlighted the importance of signing the Mercosur-European Union Agreement and their expectation that the instrument can come into force as soon as possible. Both agreed on the strategic importance of the Agreement in the current moment of resurgence of unilateralism and commercial protectionism”, stated the Social Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic in a statement released this Thursday morning.

Secom reported that Lula and Plenkovic also spoke about “topics related to peace and security”. “President Lula lamented the high spending on armaments around the world and defended the need to strengthen multilateralism and the United Nations,” he said.
Lula is in India to participate in the AI summit and also for a state visit. After that, he will go to South Korea. He will return to Brazil at the beginning of next week.
