The minister, of the (Federal Supreme Court), filed this Wednesday (18) an investigation against the former deputy (PL-SP) to investigate alleged crimes of coercion and obstruction of investigation.
Moraes followed the opinion of the (Attorney General’s Office). When recommending the archiving, the organization stated that Zambelli, after leaving Brazil, announced a plan to convince foreign authorities to influence Brazilian institutions, but was unable to implement the strategy.
The former deputy for the invasion of the (National Council of Justice) system and the issuing of a false arrest warrant against Moraes. When he was already in prison, he received an additional sentence. The two cases make up a single extradition process,
In June 2025, Moraes opened the investigation into alleged coercion and obstruction of investigation by pointing out that, in interviews, Zambelli indicated that “his escape from national territory involves, in addition to the attempt to prevent the application of criminal law, also, the reiteration of criminal conduct of attacking institutions”.
When opening the investigation, Moraes also determined that the values and senders of movements made by Pix to Zambelli in the last 30 days would be detailed.
When recommending archiving, the PGR pointed out that the analysis of the transactions indicates that the former deputy received mainly donations from supporters. He also pointed out that “the expert documents, therefore, did not reveal concrete collusion with foreign or national agents, nor various actions that had the power to impact the processing of investigations or criminal actions within the scope of the Federal Supreme Court”.
The Prosecutor’s Office also stated that it denounced the former deputy (PL) and Paulo Figueiredo for coercion, in a case that would involve the “incitement of foreign authorities”, such as the president of , , to employ commercial sanctions against Brazil with the purpose of coercing the Judiciary and influencing the processing of criminal actions.
Zambelli announced his intention to “repeat the conduct” of Eduardo and Figueiredo, according to the PGR, but the “criminal project” was limited to the level of rhetoric, “without significant externalization of enforceable acts”, the Prosecutor’s Office also stated.
Zambelli was arrested at the end of July last year, after spending two months on the run. After being spared from impeachment by the Chamber plenary, a decision that was later overturned by the STF,
