The coordinator of Prerrogativas, Marco Aurélio Carvalho, tried to remove responsibility for the relegation of Acadêmicos de Niterói to that of Rio de Janeiro.
The lawyer, an ally of Lula, argued that proof of this is that the school received a 10 in the samba-enredo, which told the story of the President of the Republic. “The structure is very powerful, competing with very traditional schools. It is frivolous to attribute it to the president,” he said.
As the Panel showed,
Marco Aurélio classified the parade as “bold and courageous” and said that it is necessary to revere the parade that ‘went down in history. He took the opportunity to rebut criticism from the opposition and even government officials. Lula’s ministers and assistants admit, behind the scenes, that especially in an election year.
He says that sectors of the government that criticize the parade are in the minority and that the attempt to undermine it is “flippant, inopportune and mistaken”.
For the coordinator of Prerogativas, “Carnival was unquestionably a success. A resounding success. What the opposition is trying to do is disgusting.” For him, the government has the knife and the cheese in its hand and not taking advantage of the moment would be ‘unprecedented stupidity’.
An assistant to the president recalled that it was Lula who created “Pastor’s Day” and sanctioned the religious freedom law.
Some of the president’s allies, however, disagree. For them, Lula will have to show rapprochement with the evangelical public if he wants to guarantee the vote of at least a portion of the electorate in October.
