The defense of (PL) asked this Friday (20) that the minister, of the (Supreme Federal Court), authorize the entry of a psychologist to carry out treatment to improve the quality of sleep and treat the former president’s hiccups, anxiety and depression.
The lawyers request that Ricardo Caiado, a psychologist and neuroscientist, can go to Papudinha, a Military Police battalion in Brasília, three times a week, at the end of the day, so that Bolsonaro can undergo non-invasive neuromodulation sessions using Cranial Electrical Stimulation (CES).
According to the document, Bolsonaro had “noticeable improvements” that improved his sleep quality and stopped hiccups when he underwent the same treatment during hospitalization in April 2025.
“Prolonged treatment, therefore, can bring significant improvement to the medical condition of multimorbidity already described and proven in the present case”, he argues. The defense stated that the treatment would be complementary to the medications already taken by the former president.
Non-invasive neuromodulation is used to alter neural activity without surgery or implants, for example through magnetic or electrical stimuli. The method can alleviate symptoms of conditions such as chronic pain and psychological disorders.
“According to the report provided by Dr. Ricardo Caiado, this is a non-invasive protocol that aims at ‘the functional regulation of central neurophysiological activity’, applied through ‘bilateral ear clips’ while the patient remains ‘at conscious rest’, in sessions that last between 50 minutes and 1 hour”, says the document presented by the defense.
A report prepared by the PF () at the beginning of February pointed out that it is “undeniable that, such as hypertension, clinical obesity, reflux and obstructive sleep apnea (pause in breathing) are serious in Bolsonaro’s health.
The document, despite having ruled out the need for transfer to house arrest, recommended further investigation of the former president’s neurological condition.
It also listed special care such as installing support rails in the corridors and in the shower stall, installing emergency bells and real-time monitoring equipment in the cell, following a diet prescribed by a nutritionist, in addition to practicing physical activity and physiotherapy.
Bolsonaro’s defense request for treatment was made on the same day that the Attorney General of the Republic, , addressed Bolsonaro. It will be up to Moraes to decide on the request.
Gonet reinforced the understanding presented by the PF and stated that, although the expert report confirmed a “multiplicity” of pathologies, the diseases are under clinical and medication control, with no need for transfer to a hospital.
