An overcrowded bus with dozens of passengers was heading from the popular tourist town of Pokhara to the metropolis of Kathmandu. when he left the highway shortly after midnight local time and ended up on the bank of a fast-flowing mountain river, about 80 kilometers west of his destination.
The police said that rescuers managed to reach the scene of the accident shortly after. The injured were pulled out of the wreckage of the bus and taken to hospital for treatment. The police are investigating the cause of the accident.
Bus accidents are quite common in Nepal. They are mainly related to poorly maintained roads and vehicles. Most of this Himalayan landscape is covered by mountains and is connected only by narrow roads.
