The Croatian Prime Minister confirmed the country’s full readiness to ensure oil supplies for Hungary and Slovakia

Through the Adria pipeline and the Omišalj terminal, JANAF is able to transport up to 15 million tons of oil per year, which exceeds the combined capacity of Slovak and Hungarian refineries.

Croatia is fully prepared to provide oil supplies to Hungary and Slovakia through the company Jadranski naftovod (JANAF) and its oil terminal in Omišalj. This was stated by the Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovič on Thursday, reports TASR with reference to the HINA agency.

  • Croatia is ready to supply oil to Hungary and Slovakia.
  • The Adria pipeline has sufficient capacity to supply both countries.
  • Prime Minister Plenkovič rejects reservations about the reliability of the Adria pipeline.
  • Delivery negotiations are ongoing with all parties involved.

The Adria pipeline could also serve as a primary supply route

He noted that the combined annual capacity of the MOL Group’s refineries in Hungary and Slovakia is 14 million tons, while the Adria pipeline operated by JANAF can transport up to 15 million tons per year, which is enough to fully satisfy the needs of both countries.

Plenkovič rejected claims by Hungarian officials that the Adria pipeline is a secondary or unreliable transport route. In this context, he emphasized that it could also serve as a primary supply route.

Non-Russian oil

The prime minister also noted that negotiations are underway between JANAF, the Croatian ministries, Hungary, Slovakia and the European Commission, while the transport prices are aligned with market rates. At the same time, he emphasized that Croatia can supply all the necessary non-Russian oil in order to avoid an energy crisis in both countries.

“Croatia is here as a neighbor, partner and friend to ensure energy security and the smooth functioning of the economies of Hungary and Slovakia,” Plenkovič said.
