Initial report indicated that the dog Orelha died due to a blow to the head

An expert report did not identify fractures caused by human action in the dog’s earwho died in Praia Brava, in Florianópolis, at the beginning of January. The suspicion is that he is the victim of aggression.

The conclusion of the document mentions, however, that It is not possible to say that the animal did not suffer trauma on the head or other parts of the body.

Expert examinations do not allow confirming the causes of the animal’s death. The suspicion is that the dog was beaten to death by a group of teenagers.

The Civil Police of Santa Catarina reported that the procedures investigating the death of the dog Orelha were forwarded to the Public Ministry. MPSC says it evaluates conclusions to issue its opinion.

The defense of the teenager allegedly involved in the case reported that they are awaiting the MP’s statement so they can take a position.

How the analysis was carried out

The report was produced from the exhumation of the dog’s remainsheld on the 11th. A expertise was requested by the 10th Public Prosecutor’s Office of Florianópolisafter the MP received the conclusion of the police investigations and highlighted the need for further clarification on the case. The court authorized the procedure.

The experts claim to have examined all of the animals’ bones, but highlight important limitations in this work due to the dog’s skeletonization process.

The expert did not find any fractures in the animal’s bones, but says that the absence of fractures does not exclude possible aggression or blow to the animal’s head, as the Civil Police analysis initially pointed out.

“All of the animal’s bones were meticulously visually examined, and no fractures or injuries that could have been caused by human action were found, not even in the skull,” says an excerpt from the report.

Experts say there is compatibility for a possible traumatic action without producing a fracture. “Specialized literature states that the majority of head traumas do not present fractures, but are still capable of leading animals to death. Therefore, it is entirely plausible that the animal suffered a blunt trauma to the head on one day and progressively worsened clinically until the next”, they say.

The report also says that no traces were found that subsidize the information conveyed on social networks that a nail would have been driven into the animal’s head. In the region of the left jaw, experts found an area of bone porosity compatible with osteomyelitis (bone infection).

According to experts, the finding is not related to any traumatic action that the dog may have suffered. In the spine, signs of wear compatible with spondylosis deformans, a degenerative disease common in elderly animals, were observed.
