American actress Christina Applegate in his new memoir, You With the Sad Eyes she openly describes the abuse she experienced in her early childhood. The fifty-four-year-old star of the series Married with Obligations states that she was abused when she was five years old. Applegate grew up mostly with her mother, Nancy Priddy, as her father, Robert Applegate, left the family when she was an infant. In his book, from which People magazine brought a sample, she writes that she was harassed by a female caregiver.
“I knew everything was wrong. I was sick and I felt fear and sadness… I never felt completely comfortable being touched, and that’s true to this day. I’ve never come to terms with it in my entire life, really, all because of that girl who made me do something I barely understood but knew was shameful,’ writes Christina, who is being treated for multiple sclerosis.
The actress also describes an unstable home environment. Her mother struggled with heroin addiction and had a physically abusive partner, which is said to have turned against her as well.
“I think I had probably the worst life situation from the age of three to seven. But things like that happened in all our homes. Single mothers, men coming and going, drugs. A lot of it is very difficult. Someone asked me: ‘Are you doing this because you are playing the victim?’ I said: ‘No, I’m strengthening other people.’ At least I hope so. I hope that some girl or boy or whoever has been through abuse or beatings or whatever I’ve been through will say, ‘Oh my God, okay. I’ll be fine,'” added.
