Princess Leonor of Spain is preparing to complete her military training in July and should progress to higher education in the next academic year. The academic path that follows is seen as a relevant stage in the preparation of the heir to the Spanish throne.
In about five months, the eldest daughter of the kings of Spain finishes her three-year training cycle in the Armed Forces, a commitment associated with her status as future queen.
Three years, three branches of the Armed Forces
The training was structured as an intensive three-year program, allowing the princess to acquire essential knowledge in each military branch. The first year was spent in the Army, the second in the Navy and the third, now in the final phase, in the Air Force.
Completion is scheduled for July, in a military ceremony presided over by Felipe VI, as Captain General of the Spanish Armed Forces. On that occasion, Leonor should receive the title of Second Lieutenant.
University on the horizon
Contrary to what could be expected after a demanding cycle of physical and theoretical preparation, no extended break is planned. According to the pink news portal Flash!, although an official announcement has not yet been made, the princess is expected to enter university as early as September.
According to the same source, the most likely hypotheses include a degree in Law or Political Science and International Relations. This last course is attended by his sister, Infanta Sofia, in Lisbon.
The academic option is seen as part of a broader institutional preparation plan. “Leonor’s university future is not only an academic decision, but also a strategic one,” said María José Gómez, an expert in protocol and etiquette, cited by the publication.
“After completing your military training, the next step must reinforce three fundamental pillars: technical preparation, proximity to the public and international projection”, added the expert, according to the same source.
Preparation for the institutional role
Military training is part of the obligations associated with the role of future head of state. The model followed by Leonor allows him to have contact with the different structures of the Armed Forces, in a journey concentrated over three years.
The same portal writes that this academic stage appears as a natural complement to the path already undertaken, articulating the institutional dimension with the technical and political component required of the position.
What’s next after July
With the military ceremony scheduled for the summer, the focus should shift to choosing a university and course. He adds that, despite the lack of confirmation from the Royal House, entry into higher education in September is the most consistent scenario at the moment.
If confirmed, Leonor will continue a path that combines military and academic training, in a framework designed to meet the future demands of the Spanish Crown.
