The municipality of Barreiro is once again at the center of Lidl Portugal’s expansion strategy, with the opening of a new store that reinforces the food chain’s investment in the region and promises to create more local economic dynamics.
The new commercial area opened its doors last Thursday, on Rua Quinta do Peliche, in Penalva, next to Autoeuropa, representing an investment of more than five million euros. With this opening, the number of Lidl workers in the municipality rises to 92, according to the website specializing in economics and business Marketeer.
New store reinforces presence in Barreiro
The store was built according to Lidl Portugal’s most recent concept, favoring a more intuitive and functional shopping experience. The space has around 1,200 square meters of sales area, organized to facilitate circulation and quick access to products.

The establishment also has six quick payment boxes, reducing waiting time and making the purchasing process more efficient, especially during busy periods, according to the same source.
The environmental component was also considered in the project. The building is equipped with LED lighting and photovoltaic panels intended for self-consumption, reducing the energy impact of daily operations.
Outside, the store offers 80 parking spaces. These include charging stations for electric vehicles, with capacity for two vehicles simultaneously, in line with the growing focus on electric mobility.
In addition to the economic investment, the new Penalva store assumes a social commitment in the region. The team will collaborate regularly with the Liga dos Amigos da Quinta do Conde, through the donation of surplus food.
This partnership, according to the same source, aims to contribute to the reduction of food waste and support families in situations of greater vulnerability, reinforcing the flag’s connection with the local community.
National expansion plan until 2027
