Shortly before five a.m. this Sunday, state television in Iran interrupted its regular programming. But the news had long since spread throughout the country: the massive air strikes by Israel and the USA in the early hours of Saturday morning had hit the residence of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in Tehran. A few hours later, the Israeli broadcaster Channel 12 reported that Khamenei’s body had been recovered from his residence after the attack; a picture of it was shown to Benjamin Netanyahu. At the same time, Donald Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social that Khamenei – the “bad man” – was dead.
