The “Wake up, Brazil” movement took supporters to the streets of more than 20 cities across the country this Sunday (1st), in acts called by federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG) and other conservative leaders. The demonstrations focused on criticizing the federal government and the Federal Supreme Court, in addition to defending the amnesty for Jair Bolsonaro and the review of sentences for those convicted of the acts of January 8.

In Cuiabá, Mayor Abílio Brunini (PL) was one of the main names in the event in the capital of Mato Grosso. Directly and without backing down in the face of criticism, he made it clear that he does not govern with everyone’s approval in mind.

“I’m not here to please everyone. I don’t care what their opinion is,” he declared, in direct reference to the local opposition.

Brunini also responded to those who question his Bolsonarist stance. “Here in Cuiabá there are 35% left-wing people. And they hate me simply for being a Bolsonarist. And I don’t care about the 35%”, he stated, drawing applause from the audience.

The mayor defended former president Jair Bolsonaro and attacked what he called political persecution. “I know that my president is not in prison for corruption, but for political persecution. And I know that the corrupt person was condemned to be where he is,” he said. To conclude, he called on the base to act in the closest surroundings: “You’re not going to wake up a PT member. Forget it. You have to wake up your neighbor who loves his family.”
