The EMS Group announced this Friday (6) the acquisition of the Medley generic brand from the French Sanofi. Until the regulatory stages are completed, which include approval of the business by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade), management remains in the hands of Sanofi.
EMS executives say that Medley, one of the most reputable generic brands in Brazil, becomes one of the group’s priorities. “Our plans are, through Medley, to continue providing access to quality medicines for the entire Brazilian population, always maintain separate operations and guarantee the health supply chain”, said the president of the Board of Directors of Grupo EMS and member of the company’s founding family, Carlos Sanchez.
According to EMS projections, the new company should reach a share of around 30% of the generics market in Brazil. The agreement was concluded for a value close to what the market has speculated — something more than US$500 million -, confirmed the vice president of EMS, Marcus Sanchez.
According to the company, the agreement should not result in the closure of factories and the company is considering opening new units. An investment may occur in Manaus and the company does not rule out the possibility of new investments after the agreement.
