Streaks are usually not dirt, just dirt detergent residues left on the glass. Hard water, too wet or dirty cloth can also be a problem. Contrary to appearances, you should not wash windows in full sunbecause the temperature causes the liquid to dry out before you can collect it. However, there is a solution for this.
If you do two things: use a light solution of water and dishwashing liquid and carefully remove the water from the glass, streaks will definitely not appear.
This window cleaning solution will work everywhere, not only to but also mirrors, balustrades, shower cabins and even high-gloss cabinet fronts. Prepare it with water and dishwashing liquid in the following proportions:
- 500 ml of warm water
- 3-6 drops of neutral dishwashing liquid
Be careful because too much liquid creates a beautiful foam, but also leaves a layer that is the main culprit of streaks.
If you have very greasy deposits (e.g. kitchen window near the hob), you can add 1-2 drops more. It’s better to add a drop and repeat than to overdo it and then struggle with streaks.
1. First the frames and window sill
Start with the windowsill, because the windows will get dirty when washing. All you need is a damp cloth with the same solution (but change it before washing the windows, otherwise you will smear dust on them, I guess). Finally, wipe dry.
2. Spray the glass sparingly (so that the water does not run off)
3. Wipe with a microfiber to collect dust and grease. The microfiber should be clean, after one window, rinse it in clean water and squeeze it well.
4. Collect the water with a window squeegee, starting from the top, run the squeegee evenly downwards or in an S-shape. After each stroke, wipe the rubber with a paper towel or dry cloth.
5. Dry buff using a dry microfiber cloth or paper towel.
Choose a cloudy rather than a sunny day to clean your windows. Apply the liquid sparingly, separating the washing stages from the drying stages. Collect water and polish, avoiding smearing any residue on the surface. Also make sure that the water you use is not too hard. All this together will ensure that after washing the windows they actually remain clean and perfectly shiny, without any streaks that disfigure them.
