Government of Bahia dismisses PM who wished ACM Neto victory – 03/07/2026 – Panel

The government of Bahia dismissed a military police officer from a coordination role two weeks after he declared support for the opposition pre-candidate for the state government, (União Brasil), during a Carnival event.

Neto must contest the election against governor Jerônimo Rodrigues (PT), who is seeking a new term.

The support of Lieutenant Colonel André Luís Teodósio Presa was given during the passage of a block on February 19, in Salvador. Neto was on top of a trio and the police officer, without uniform, shouted “For the love of God, win this damn thing”.

The video was posted on the networks of the União Brasil pre-candidate. Presa held the role of coordinator of the Bahia PM Education and Research Institute.

The police officer had been in office since March 2023. The dismissal was published in the state’s Official Gazette this Thursday (5).

Sources interviewed under reserve by the Panel say that the officer even tried to reverse the dismissal with the general command of the PM, but without success. When contacted by the Panel, he did not want to comment.

In a statement, the government of Bahia denied that the dismissal was motivated by support for the opponent. “The dismissal has no relation to supposed political demonstrations”, he informed.

The state management did not explain the reason for the dismissal, however.
