The fight against violence against women has advanced in recent years with the creation of laws and public policies aimed at protecting, welcoming and guaranteeing rights. In the context of , celebrated on March 8, state and municipal initiatives reinforce the support network for victims and seek to expand prevention, assistance and awareness on the topic.
Among the measures aimed at humanized care is Recommendation No. 001/2017 of the Public Ministry of the State of Acre (MPAC), which guides Civil Police stations to offer specialized care to transgender women and transvestites who are victims of domestic violence. The initiative seeks to guarantee reception without discrimination and expand access to protection for all women in vulnerable situations.
Another important front concerns support for families affected by feminicides. In Rio Branco, Municipal Law No. 2,437/2022 created the Orphans of Feminicide Program, aimed at assisting children who lost their mothers as a result of this type of crime. At the state level, Law No. 4,065/2022 established a State Policy for the Protection of Orphans from Femicide, establishing guidelines to guarantee social, psychological and educational support to indirect victims of this violence.
The state has also advanced in formulating public policies with a gender focus. Law No. 4,168/2023 established the so-called Gender-Sensitive Budget, a mechanism that guides the preparation of the public budget taking into account the promotion of equality between men and women and the financing of policies aimed at women.
Prevention and reception measures were also incorporated into Acre legislation. Law No. 4,120/2023 created the so-called “Safe Zone”, establishing protective actions and service protocols to reduce situations of violence against women in bars, nightclubs and other leisure establishments. Law No. 4,615 guarantees priority in issuing documents for women victims of domestic violence who had items retained or destroyed by the aggressor.
Attention to women’s health also gained space in legislation. Law No. 4,614/2025 established the state policy of awareness and comprehensive care for women’s health during menopause, the period of transition to menopause, in addition to creating a state week dedicated to the topic. More recently, in January 2026, Law No. 4,773 created the Psychological Support Program for women victims of domestic violence, expanding specialized care in the public network.
