Two members of Iran’s Assembly of Experts assured this Sunday that They have already elected the new supreme leader of the countrysuccessor of the assassinated Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, although his name has not yet been publicly announced.

“The leadership election has already been carried out and the leader has been determined“said Ayatollah Ahmad Alamolhoda, a member of the Assembly of Experts, a body made up of 88 clerics that is elected at the polls every four years. It is now up to Ayatollah Hashem Hosseini Bushehri, responsible for the secretariat of the Assembly of Experts, to “publicly announce the decision” of the clerics, Alamolhoda added, quoted by various Iranian media such as Tasnim and Mehr.

Ayatollah Kamal Heydari assured for his part that “the best option has been chosenapproved by the majority of the Assembly of Experts, and the Great Satan (United States) has also mentioned it.”

Hossein Mozaffari, one of the members of the Assembly of Experts, said this Saturday that he hoped that the replacement for Khamenei, killed in an Israeli-American attack on February 28, would be elected in the next 24 hours. He did so after the country’s two well-known ayatollahs, Hosein Nuri Hamedani and Abdolkarim Abedini, urged that the election of the supreme leader be accelerated.

“During these days, the experts carried out a great effort to determine the Leader and they did not fail. The opinion of the majority of experts was issued,” said another expert, Ayatollah Mohamad Mahdi Mirbagheri.

Pressure to accelerate the process has also come from ultra-conservative parliamentarian Hamid Rasaei, who has asked to put an end as soon as possible to the activity of the Interim Leadership Council, of which the country’s president Masud Pezeshkian is a member, whom he criticized for his statements that Iran would no longer attack its neighboring countries.

The Israeli Army reiterated this Sunday on its X account in Farsi that will attack whoever is Khamenei’s successorand “to any person seeking to appoint a successor.”
