Dismissed prosecutor assumes leadership of MP entity in Amapá – 03/09/2026 – Panel

Even though he was removed from office by the CNMP (National Council of the Public Ministry), prosecutor João Paulo Furlan took office last Friday (6) as president of the association that represents the category in Amapá.

In January, for having been cited in an investigation into buying votes with basic food baskets and gasoline for his brother’s electoral campaign, who until last week was mayor of Macapá.

The former mayor was removed by the courts on Wednesday (4) on suspicion of running a fraud scheme in public tenders in the health sector. and said he is the target of political persecution.

The prosecutor was unanimously elected in November to head the Amapá Public Ministry Association (Ampap) for the 2026-2028 biennium.

His inauguration ceremony was attended by his former mayor brother and a CNMP counselor, Ivana Cei.

João Paulo Furlan says that the evidence linking him to the alleged vote-buying scheme is illicit and attributes the case to the persecution of allies of the Senate president,

Furlan also told the Panel that the association he will preside over is a private entity and that there is no prohibition in the statute for him to hold the position even if he is away. He also said that he has already taken a leave of absence from his career to preside over the entity.
