The third phase of , launched on Wednesday (4), placed the case at the center of public debate. Daniel Vorcaro’s new preventive detention, his transfer to a maximum security federal prison and, above all, revealed that he was a banker with free movement between the three Powers. The scale of the scandal, , increased pressure on the Brazilian political system and increased the population’s expectations about the next chapters.
According to data from , which analyzes more than 100,000 public Telegram groups in real time, the topic dominated political conversations in recent days, with an increase in messages between March 6 and 8. The most expressive narrative, present in around 20% of mentions on the topic, revolves around the relationship between the minister and the minister, driven by revelations that both were on the day of the banker’s first arrest. The critical tone towards Moraes widely prevails, and among the mentions that quote the minister, more than 30% contain explicitly hostile terms. Another popular narrative, with just over 13% of messages, is the framing of the case as a government scandal, exploring the meeting that the president had with Vorcaro in Planalto in December 2024.
In the most right-wing groups, the case is treated as confirmation that there is promiscuity between power and the financial system, with Lula at the center. The messages explore a meeting in Planalto outside the official agenda, which allegedly advised Vorcaro to keep the bank. In the groups monitored by Palver, the anti-government narrative often associates the Master with , building the image of systemic under the PT government.
There is, however, a weakness in this narrative. The same messages that expose Vorcaro’s entry into the government reveal relationships with right-wing figures. (PL-MG) during Bolsonaro’s 2022 campaign, for example, generated repercussions among groups and forced the conservative camp to adjust its discourse. Messages that quote the senator (PP-PI) and the president of the Chamber, (Republicanos-PB), were also explored in the groups. Palver identified that around 5% of the debate treats the case as a problem that affects all sides, but this is a minority narrative, even though it is growing.
A and , Vorcaro’s trusted man, within the PF Superintendence in BH, served to deepen the credibility crisis of , and in the Palver data it is possible to observe that requests for Moraes’ impeachment are beginning to gain volume, with voices from the left and right converging in criticizing the Court.
The case reveals that Vorcaro was an operator who moved between situation and opposition, distributing gifts, jets and, according to , intimidation. The attempt by each side to instrumentalize the scandal against the opponent comes up against the fact that the messages compromise everyone. The leakage of information is worrying, as it only offers a part of the story and favors spectacularization, and may contain a high electoral risk, depending on what leaks and when it leaks. If not handled with caution, the case could result in an ending similar to Lava Jato.
