Bolsonaro’s defense asks Moraes for authorization for a visit by Trump’s advisor

Former president Jair Bolsonaro’s defense asked the Federal Supreme Court (STF) for authorization for him to receive a visit in prison from Darren Beattie, a member of the government of United States President Donald Trump. The request was forwarded to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, responsible for executing the former president’s sentence.

Bolsonaro is being held in Complexo da Papuda, in Brasília, where he is serving a sentence of 27 years and three months in prison for an attempted coup d’état.

According to lawyers, Beattie will be in Brasília on an official commitment and will remain in the federal capital for a short period, which would make it unfeasible to visit within the regular days allowed by the prison unit.

In the request presented to the STF, the defense requests authorization for the meeting to take place outside the prison’s usual visiting calendar. Currently, inmates can receive visitors on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The lawyers ask that the meeting be authorized exceptionally on March 16th, in the afternoon, or on March 17th, in the morning or early afternoon, respecting the security rules established by the prison administration.

The defense also requested that Darren Beattie be allowed into the unit accompanied by an interpreter.
