This time we will focus mainly on how much water to pour into the vessel for individual species. Let’s also not forget to follow basic care rules to extend the life of cut flowers.

Vases with cut flowers should be filled to 2/3, 1/2 or 1/4 of the height of the vase. What is the situation in individual species?

In the case of bouquets of hydrangeas, peonies and lilies, fill the vessel up to 2/3 of the height. Pour half of the water into a vase with roses, roses, eustomas, bells and gladioli. In turn, popular tulips, as well as gerberas, sunflowers and carnations need only 1/4 of water.

Thanks to the appropriate water level, flowers can properly absorb it through the stems, which affects their freshness, firmness and longer durability in a vase. Too much water can accelerate their rotting, while too little will cause the plants to wilt faster.

Therefore, it is worth adjusting the amount of water in the vessel to the species of plants in the bouquet. Thanks to this, they will last much longer than just 3 days.

Before placing the plants in a vase, it is worth cutting their stems by 2-3 cm diagonally.. This will increase the surface area for water collection. We also recommend removing the lower leaves, because those immersed in water begin to rot quickly.

Another important activity is to regularly change the water in the vessel. During warm days, it is best to do this every day, because then the putrefaction processes occur faster. This causes water spoilage and its uptake by the stems is limited. Blockages form in the tissues, causing the flowers to quickly wither.

When changing the water, you can also rinse the stems of the specimens. It is also worth trimming their ends every time.

Cut flowers will also be useful to extend their life. Sometimes we receive it from a flower shop together with a bouquet. However, if we don’t have it, then just add 1-2 teaspoons of sugar to 1 liter of water. At the same time, add a bit of citric acid or 1 tablet of polopirin to limit the excessive development of pathogenic bacteria or fungi.

Place the vase with the bouquet in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Do not place ripe fruit near it because they emit ethylene, which accelerates the aging and wilting of the specimens.
