The fern is a popular potted plant with a delightful plume of lush green leaves. It must be admitted that its condition deteriorates in winter, especially due to dry air. Fortunately, in spring the specimen regrows quickly, but it needs a little help. Check how to care for a fern in March and how to fertilize it. You may already have this product in your kitchen cabinet.
After winter, it is worth replanting a fern whose roots come out through drainage holes and its substrate dries out quickly.. This treatment is worth performing for plants with small, yellowing leaves.
Transplant the fern into a 2-3 cm wider pot, necessarily equipped with drainage. Pour the substrate into it, which is a mixture of peat, perlite and bark. Such soil will provide adequate aeration and a slightly acidic pH – from 5.5 to 6.5.
Another important procedure is getting rid of dry parts. We cut them with the help of sharp and sanitized scissors.
After these two treatments, place the fern in a bright place, but not with direct sunlight, as it could burn its delicate leaves.
How to water this plant after winter? Water the freshly transplanted specimen often, even several times, during the first week. The substrate must be constantly moist, but not wet.
On warm days, stick to watering 2-3 times a week. In colder weather, it is enough to do this once a week.
Sprinkling the plant also contributes to its healthy appearance. This applies to specimens standing in dry rooms.

Spring fern care is not only about repotting and pruning. This is also the perfect time to start fertilizing. In the case of a transplanted plant, we must wait 2-3 weeks before this treatment.
When growing potted plants, natural nutrients made from yeast, coffee grounds or banana peels are most often used. Powdered milk is best for ferns.
Why is it worth using a natural powdered milk supplement? This product is a source of protein and sugars that are food for soil microorganisms. It restores the leaves’ vivid green color and improves their overall condition. The root system is strengthened, therefore the plant is stimulated to grow.
How to make such homemade fertilizer? The recipe for it is very simple. To start, we traditionally mix powdered milk with water. Dilute the solution in 1 liter of water (its content should not exceed 100 ml of milk).
Water the fern once a week with the natural conditioner prepared in this way. We can also feed it to other plants, such as aloe or ficus.
