MOSCOW, March 9 (Reuters) – Russian President Vladimir Putin presented in a telephone conversation on Monday with US President Donald Trump proposals for a quick resolution of the conflict over Iran, Kremlin foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov said.
Recounting the conversation to journalists, Ushakov said the two leaders also discussed the conflict in Ukraine and noted that Russian gains should push Kiev negotiators to move toward a settlement.
He described the entire conversation as “very substantial” and said it “should probably have practical significance for future work between the two countries.”
Ushakov stated that Putin “expressed several ideas aimed at a quick political and diplomatic end to the Iranian conflict, including contacts that took place with leaders of Gulf states, the president of Iran and leaders of other countries.”
According to him, Trump “offered his assessment of developments in the US-Israel operation.”
“Let me say that there was a very substantial and undoubtedly useful exchange of ideas.”

Ushakov further reported that Trump believes it is in the U.S. interest to see a “quick end to the conflict in Ukraine with a ceasefire and a long-term agreement.”
The events in Ukraine, he said, were characterized by “Russian troops advancing quite successfully.”
“This, as noted, is a factor that should lead the Kiev regime to finally follow the path of negotiating a settlement to the conflict.”
Ushakov added that the two presidents also discussed the situation in Venezuela in the context of global oil markets.
