Israel’s offensive in Lebanon escalated dramatically on Wednesday with a series of airstrikes on Beirut and the strategic Bikaa Valley. While official sources have confirmed the death of seven people, local media warn of up to 17 victims, among whom are supposed to be members of a Syrian family.
Seven people were killed and 18 others injured in Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon on Wednesday, the country’s health ministry said. The ministry says Israel attacked in the Bikaa Valley in eastern Lebanon. According to state media reports, the target of the airstrikes was a building where a Syrian family lived. However, the Lebanese media reported that up to 17 people lost their lives in the east and south of the country.
Israel’s military on Wednesday urged residents of Beirut to evacuate, saying it would strike Hezbollah militant group targets there. Subsequently, the Lebanese media reported on the attacks in the capital.
Israel already hit a residential building in the center of Beirut on Wednesday morning.
Lebanon at war
Lebanon was drawn into the regional war between Israel, the United States and Iran when the militant group Hezbollah began shelling northern Israel. His army responded by attacking targets attributed to the movement.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Social Affairs said nearly 780,000 people are internally displaced as a result of the conflict.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has announced that his country will this week triple the amount of aid it is sending to Lebanon in response to the escalating crisis. It is a humanitarian shipment in the volume of 60 tons, and Beirut is supposed to receive it this week.
