Brussels wants to introduce measures to increase female potential in the sector, namely financial incentives. Em 2024, 55,300 young women received support to create their agricultural companies.
The European Commission launched this Wednesday the Women in Agriculture Platform, a new initiative aimed at empowering women in agriculture and promoting equal opportunities in rural communities.
The platform, according to a statement from the community executive, wants to help increase women’s participation in agricultureas they manage only 32% of agricultural holdings.
Persistent obstacles, such as unequal access to land, financing and training, continue to limit their potential, considers Brussels.
Within the framework of EU agricultural policy, Member States can now introduce specific measures, including financial incentivesto support women farmers.
Only in 2024, 55,300 young women received support to create their agricultural companies and benefit from additional income support.
The platform’s main activity will be mentoring, the statement adds, explaining that mentors “share practical knowledge, create mentoring networks to challenge stereotypes, inspire young women and normalize female leadership in agriculture.”
