Master Case: Cleitinho says that Vorcaro moved between right and left

Senator Cleitinho Azevedo (Republicanos-MG) stated that banker Daniel Vorcaro, linked to Banco Master, maintained political relations with different ideological camps in Brazil. The statement was given in an interview with UOL.

According to the senator, the businessman’s contact history shows that he had dialogue with both right-wing and left-wing figures. “Vorcaro donated to Bolsonaro, but he says he had a very important meeting with Lula, who left there very satisfied. It was a great meeting. So, these guys don’t give a damn about ideology”, said Cleitinho.

The speech took place in the context of defending a parliamentary commission of inquiry to investigate the case involving Banco Master. The senator declared support for the CPI proposed by Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE), which seeks to investigate possible relationships between ministers of the Federal Supreme Court and Vorcaro.

Cleitinho stated that the investigation needs to go beyond the Judiciary and also examine political connections. For him, electoral donations alone do not indicate irregularity, but must be contextualized by the candidates who received the resources.

“It’s up to Tarcísio de Freitas, who received a donation, to explain. I’m not here to make a judgment about donations, because in campaigns both Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva receives and Tarcísio receives. Now, it’s up in practice, in the mandate, what connection Tarcísio or Jair Bolsonaro had with these people”, he said.

The senator also added that Vorcaro himself had already criticized former president Bolsonaro, despite having made political donations. According to Cleitinho, the banker stated that he considered the former president an “idiot”, but that he made the electoral contribution on his own decision.

When defending the creation of the CPI, the parliamentarian stated that the investigation needs to cover different political actors. For him, cases of corruption are not restricted to a specific ideological field and must be investigated broadly by Congress.

“The CPI is extremely important. We have to investigate everything, the Brazilian population wants an answer. And corruption, at this point, is on the left, it is on the right, it is on the center. I’m not here to make light of anyone. If I’m wrong, I’ll have to pay,” he declared.
