Minister said she spoke with President Lula and needed her mother’s “blessings” before making her decision
The Minister of Planning, (MDB), confirmed this Thursday (12.Feb.2026) that he will compete for one of the Senate seats in the State of São Paulo. The announcement was made during the National Forum of State Planning Secretaries, in Mato Grosso do Sul.
“São Paulo had given me more than 1/3 for President of the Republic, being where I had the most votes and where I have the most acceptance: the ideas that I propose, the way I think, being a person of the center, with a progressive vision in terms of customs and liberal in terms of economics, somehow pleased me”these.
Tebet stated that he spoke informally with the president (PT) at the end of January, on a trip to Panama. According to her, at the time, the PT member asked the minister to think about “about the electoral process of being a candidate for the Senate for São Paulo”.
“I only had to give an answer for one reason and I say this very calmly: I needed my mother’s blessings. I needed to talk to my mother who was hoping that I could return to her house”he said. Tebet stated that his decision was made after a conversation with his mother, on Wednesday (11 March).
