Vitória defender has a confirmed injury and could be out of the season

Vitória will have an important absence for the remainder of the season. Defender Edu suffered a complete rupture of the Achilles tendon in his left foot and will need to undergo surgery. According to the club, the recovery period varies between six and eight months.

The injury occurred last Wednesday (11), at Arena Fonte Nova, in Salvador, in the 5th round of the Brazilian Championship.

Edu left the match during the second half and had to be replaced by defender Camutanga. After the final whistle, the defender left the stadium on crutches, assisted by club professionals.

Surgery and beginning of recovery

According to Vitória’s doctor, Marcelo Côrtes, the club is working to speed up the necessary procedures before surgery, with the aim of starting the recovery process as quickly as possible.

“We are speeding up pre-operative exams and imaging exams for documentation purposes so that the treatment can be carried out as quickly as possible and that the rehabilitation process can also begin as quickly as possible”, he explained.

Cast changes

With Edu’s absence, the tendency is for Camutanga to take over the place among the team’s starters. The defender should form a defensive duo with Cacá, who made a good debut at Ba-Vi.

Vitória returns to the field this Saturday (14), at 6:30 pm (Brasília time), to face Atlético-MG. The match valid for the 6th round of the Brasileirão will be held at Barradão, in Salvador.

Trained in the youth teams, Edu debuted as a professional in 2020 with the Celeste team, but was soon traded to Athletico-PR. From there, it passed through Remo and Goiás until reaching Vitória, in 2024.
