President states that the award highlights the strength of the country’s audiovisual sector and mentions national films; The Secret Agent competes for categories at the 2026 Oscars
The president stated this Sunday (March 15, 2026) that the Oscar ceremony represents international recognition of the strength of Brazilian audiovisual.
Lula said, on the day of the awards, that “the world turns its eyes to the strength of our audiovisual” and for cultural production in Brazil.
“Brazil, the country of cinema. Today, the day of the Oscar awards, the world turns its eyes to the strength of our audiovisual. It is the recognition of the power of Brazilian culture“, he wrote.
In the post, the president cited a list of Brazilian films that have gained national and international prominence over the last few decades, such as Bacurau, Tropa de Elite, Cidade de Deus, Central do Brasil, Aquarius, Que Horas Ela Volta?, Linha de Passe, Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol and Terra em Transe.

The president also mentioned other recent national cinema titles, such as , and highlighted that the country has “Plenty of talent to shine on the world’s screens”.
