Oscar: Brazil is the 3rd country in Latin America with the most nominations; see list

Brazil at the Oscars

The first was in 1945, with the song “Rio de Janeiro”, by Ary Barroso, which is part of the soundtrack for the film “Brazil”. In the same category, Brazil was only nominated again in 2012, for the song “Real in Rio” from the animation “Rio”.

For Best Feature Documentary, there were three: “Democracy in Vertigo” (2020), “The Salt of the Earth” (2015) and “El Salvador: Another Vietnam” (1982).

“Where I Live” won a nomination in 2022 in the category of Best Short Documentary, until then Brazil’s most recent nomination at the Oscars.

The previous year, “A Football Story” tried to win the statuette for Best Live Action Short, but came up empty-handed.
