Searches in the Azores on suspicion of favoritism to Ryanair

The Judiciary Police’s “Last Call” operation is on the ground, investigating airline favoritism. From what SIC found, the company in question is the Irish company Ryanair.

In the statement sent to the newsrooms, which carried out, this Tuesday, searches on the islands of São Miguel, Terceira and Faial, as well as in Lisbon, complying with “14 search and seizure warrants for homes, public bodies, private law associations and lawyer offices”.

Under investigation is “the practice of crimes of fraud in obtaining a subsidy or subsidy, malfeasance, economic participation in business and abuse of powers”.

“At issue are suspicions of the favoritism of an airline by a public entity, namely through illegal financing in the improper award of contracts financed by the Azores 2030 Operational Program”, reads the statement.

In addition to the “important evidence of the facts” collected, five defendants were appointed to the PJ and the investigation is being carried out at the Lisbon Regional DIAP.

Antena1/Açores says, cited by the Lusa agency, that the PJ carried out searches at the Regional Directorate of Planning and Structural Funds, based in Angra do Heroísmo (Terceira Island), and at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ponta Delgada.
