The Government decided to increase support for gas cylinders to 25 euros and proceed with an increase in professional diesel, at a time when energy costs are once again putting pressure on the budgets of families and companies. The measures are temporary and will apply for three months.
The decision comes in a context of rising energy prices, seeking to provide an immediate response to those who most feel the impact of these increases. According to the website, the Executive chose to reinforce existing mechanisms instead of creating new support, in a logic of speed and simplification.
Gas cylinder support increases temporarily
The value of support for the gas cylinder thus increases from 15 to 25 euros per unit, within the scope of the Solidarity Gas Bottle program. This is a significant increase, albeit of limited duration, designed to alleviate the burden on the most vulnerable families.
According to the same source, this measure applies for the next three months and is aimed mainly at households that depend on bottled gas to cook or heat the house. In many parts of the country, especially outside large urban centers, this continues to be the main source of domestic energy.
The reinforcement now announced seeks to follow the recent evolution of prices in the energy sector, which has been registering relevant fluctuations. The website explains that the objective is to guarantee some immediate breathing space, avoiding a more sudden impact on the monthly budget of these families.
Although temporary, the increase in support may represent a relevant difference at the end of the month, especially in households with greater consumption or with more limited income. Still, the Government leaves open the possibility of reviewing the measures.
Professional diesel also receives reinforcement
In addition to supporting gas, the Executive decided to move forward with an extraordinary mechanism aimed at the transport sector. A refund of 10 cents per liter of professional diesel is foreseen, with a limit of 15 thousand liters per vehicle.
According to Pplware, this measure will also last for three months and aims to mitigate the impact of operating costs on companies, especially in a sector where fuel represents a significant portion of expenses.
The support will be applied through a reimbursement system, already used in previous initiatives, allowing companies to recover part of the amount spent on fuel. According to the publication, this approach aims to maintain the sector’s competitiveness and avoid wider repercussions on the economy.
Rising energy prices have ripple effects, affecting not only transportation, but also the cost of goods and services. In this sense, the reinforcement of professional diesel seeks to stop this domino effect.
Government admits new adjustments if situation persists
The Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, admitted that the government could intervene again if the evolution of energy prices so requires. The position was expressed as part of the announcement of these measures.
According to statements cited by the same source, the Executive will closely monitor the situation and adjust the State’s responses whenever more structural effects occur. The strategy involves maintaining flexibility in the face of a still uncertain scenario.
This approach suggests that current support may not be definitive and that new measures may emerge depending on the evolution of energy markets. For now, the focus is on providing an immediate response in the short term.
Altogether, the decisions now announced reflect an attempt to balance the impact of energy on different sectors, from families to companies. It remains to be seen whether the next few months will bring sufficient stability or whether it will be necessary to change the support again.
