The mother of singer Lucas Lucco, 34, Karina Lucco, published a video on Instagram where it shows the results of the seven months of alopecia treatment you have been undergoing.
“Before you feel sorry… understand the process”, wrote Karina in the video, which starts with full, highlighted hair. Then, it shows how the threads were at the beginning, thin and in very little quantity; she even used scarves to cover her head during that period.
In the caption, she wrote: “Between these images, there is a visible difference. But what matters most is not what fell… it is what is still standing. I’m not here to generate pity. I’m here to show the real process.”
“Of course there are difficult days, of sadness and crying… but they don’t stop me, they pass. I continue with faith, discipline and courage”, he added.
Karina already knew that the disease is an autoimmune condition in which the body’s immune system attacks its own hair follicles.
What is alopecia areata?
According to dermatologist Debora Terra Cardial, member of the European Society of Dermatology and Venereology, alopecia areata is characterized by the attack of the body’s defense system on hair follicles. “It can cause rounded flaws in different areas, not only on the scalp, but also on eyelashes, eyebrows and beard. In some cases, there is total loss of hair or all hair on the body.”
The condition is because it involves an error in the regulation of the follicle. Dermatologist Caroline Romanelli, member of the Brazilian Society of Regional Dermatology São Paulo (SBD-RESP), explains: “There is a breakdown in the immunological privilege of the follicle, which becomes recognized as a target. The immune system mistakenly attacks the hair follicles, resulting in hair loss.”
