Petro says Ecuador bombed Colombian territory and killed 27 people

The Colombian president said that the bodies were found charred and a bomb was located in a community on the border; Noboa denies action in neighboring territory

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petroagain attributed this Tuesday (17) to Ecuador the authorship of explosions on the borders of countries and the appearance of a bomb on the spot. In a publication on X (formerly Twitter), the Colombian leader said that the alleged attempted attack “it does not appear to be the work of armed groups or security forces”.

There are 27 charred bodiesand the explanation is not credible, the bombs are on the ground near families, many of whom peacefully chose to replace their coca leaf plantations with legal plantations“, wrote Petro. Still in the publication, the Colombian president stated that this community now produces coffee, chocolate and cocoa.

During the meeting of the Council of Ministers, on Monday (16), Petro communicated about the episode at the border. The president of Colombia said that the 250 kg bomb was “dropped from a plane”.

“The methods will be thoroughly investigatedvery close to the border with Ecuador, which in a way confirms my suspicion, but it is I need to investigate in depth whether we are being bombed from [território equatoriano]“, he declared.

Petro stated that there is a “recording” about the explosions that “should be made public”. This video, according to him, is from Ecuador and was accessed by Colombian authorities.

Finally, Petro reported that asked the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to call the head of state of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, and discuss the episode. “We don’t want to go to war”declared the Colombian.

Noboa refutes Petro

Through publication of X, the president of Ecuador said that his administration “combating drug-related terrorism” since the beginning of his mandate. Noboa stated that through international cooperation, its forces bomb “places that served as hiding places for criminal groups”.

The Ecuadorian leader declared that these organizations are “mostly Colombian”. However, Noboa said that the actions are in the territory of Ecuador, not in Colombia.
